Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
