The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
